What a wholesale EVOO price is made of
- Oil at origin — the price per kg of the oil in Spain, set by the market that week.
- Quality premium or discount — category, freshness, harvest, variety, certifications.
- Packaging — the IBC or flexitank for bulk oil; bottle, closure, label and case for bottled oil.
- Private label work — label handling and set-up, where applicable.
- Logistics — loading, transport and insurance according to the Incoterm.
- Documents and services — analysis, certificates, export formalities.
What moves the price at origin
- Harvest size. The official Spanish harvest estimate (aforo), published in the autumn, sets expectations for the whole campaign.
- Stocks. AICA publishes monthly how much oil mills and packers hold. At the end of March 2026, Spanish stocks stood at about 940,000 tonnes.
- Competing origins. A large crop in Tunisia, Italy, Greece or Turkey changes the pressure on Spanish prices.
- Demand and season. The Spanish campaign runs from 1 October to 30 September; new-crop oil arrives from the autumn, and the months before it are often the tightest.
- Trade policy and currency — tariffs in destination markets and the euro exchange rate for buyers outside the eurozone.
Recent context
After two short harvests, Spanish extra virgin olive oil reached record prices in early 2024. With a larger 2024/25 crop and a 2025/26 campaign of around 1.3 million tonnes in Spain, prices normalised: industry market reports placed conventional Spanish EVOO at around €4.2–4.5 per kg in April 2026. The outlook for 2026/27 depends on the autumn harvest estimate.

Per kilo, per litre, per bottle
Olive oil weighs about 0.915 kg per litre (at 20 °C). So a price of €X per kg equals about €0.915·X per litre. One 1,000-litre IBC holds about 915 kg; a 22,000-litre flexitank about 20 tonnes. For bottled oil, add packaging, filling and logistics per unit — see cost per bottle.

Indicative. Average density 0.915 kg/L at 20 °C; olive oil is quoted per kilo. “Oil per bottle” is the oil only: no packaging, filling, freight or taxes. Bottle counts assume a theoretical fill with no losses.
