Who buys bulk EVOO from us
Bulk oil is for buyers who fill, blend or process the oil themselves:
- Bottlers and packers — including bottlers outside Spain that pack Spanish oil under their own or their customers' brands. Italy, for example, is the largest destination for Spanish olive oil exports, mostly in bulk.
- Importers that repack in their destination market to save freight and adapt the label locally.
- Food manufacturers — sauces, preserves, ready meals, bakery — that need a consistent specification lot after lot.
- Distributors with tank storage that sell loose oil to foodservice or industry.
IBC or flexitank?
The two bulk formats solve different problems. A flexitank carries roughly the volume of 16 to 24 IBCs in a single container, which usually makes it the cheapest cost per tonne for full-container volumes. IBCs are the choice for smaller or staggered volumes and for buyers without a tank to discharge into.
| IBC | Flexitank | |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | 1,000 L (≈ 0.91 t) | Typically 16,000–24,000 L (≈ 15–22 t) |
| Transport | Truck or container, several units | One 20-foot container |
| Best for | Smaller, mixed or staggered volumes | Full-container volumes |
| At destination | Forklift; discharge by gravity valve | Pump, hoses and a receiving tank |
| Cold season | Store above clouding temperature | Heating pad may be required for discharge |
| Packaging after use | Returnable or recyclable container | Single-use liner, disposed of after discharge |

Indicative. Average density 0.915 kg/L at 20 °C; olive oil is quoted per kilo. “Oil per bottle” is the oil only: no packaging, filling, freight or taxes. Bottle counts assume a theoretical fill with no losses.
What a bulk EVOO offer from Iberian Olive includes
A bulk price only means something next to the oil it describes. Every written bulk offer states:
- Legal category under Regulation (EU) 2022/2104 — for example "extra virgin olive oil".
- Origin — Spain, with the producing region for that lot.
- Variety or blend — for example Picual, Hojiblanca, Arbequina or a blend, depending on what the harvest offers.
- Harvest — the campaign (1 October – 30 September) the oil comes from.
- Lot reference and its certificate of analysis.
- Quantity and format — number of IBCs or flexitank size.
- Loading point and date in Spain.
- Incoterm, payment terms and validity.
How to compare two bulk EVOO quotations
Two offers of "extra virgin olive oil" at different prices are rarely the same product. Before comparing price, line up these points:
- Same category and harvest? Oil from the previous campaign is cheaper for a reason: it is older.
- Freshness markers, not only acidity. Free acidity says little about ageing. Compare K232, K270 and fatty acid ethyl esters: an oil close to the legal limits today may not stay extra virgin until its best-before date. See our guide to EVOO specifications.
- Date of the analysis. A certificate from months ago describes the oil as it was then.
- Sample from the lot. The sample should be sealed and referenced to the lot on offer, not a "type" sample.
- Price basis. €/kg or €/L, and at which Incoterm. Who pays for the flexitank, heating pad, loading and documents?
- Validity and payment terms. Origin prices move weekly; a cheap offer valid for a day is not comparable to one valid for a week.
Handling bulk olive oil well
Extra virgin olive oil is protected by keeping it away from its three enemies: light, oxygen and heat. In practice that means food-grade containers, minimal headspace, storage in a cool place and — for tanks at destination — good practice such as nitrogen blanketing. Olive oil clouds when cold; the effect is reversible and not a quality defect, but it must be planned for when discharging a flexitank in winter.
Other grades in bulk
Besides extra virgin, we supply on request virgin olive oil, olive oil composed of refined and virgin olive oils and olive-pomace oil — always under their legal EU names. These are common choices for industrial frying and food manufacturing, where a neutral taste and a lower price per kilo matter more than sensory profile.
Documents that travel with the oil
Commercial invoice and packing list, certificate of analysis per lot, certificate of origin, transport document (CMR or bill of lading) and export declaration — plus an EUR.1 or origin declaration where an EU trade agreement applies, and any health or free-sale certificate your destination requires. We confirm the list for your destination before you order.
